Zirconium Coating
Dental coatings are basically divided into two groups as those containing metal and those not containing metal. Zirconium dental coating is a porcelain dental coating method with a zirconium dioxide infrastructure. They do not contain metal. Zirconium is combined with oxygen in special furnaces and converted into zirconia ceramic and used as a dental coating material. It is a method that has been preferred in recent years in terms of its advantages.
It is generally preferred by people who have tooth decay or want to have a more aesthetic white smile. It is widely used in front teeth due to its aesthetic effectiveness. It can be applied to the tooth surface or in missing tooth areas. Gum compatibility is good. It is necessary to take as much care in the care of zirconium coated teeth as it is for our natural teeth.
How is Zirconium Coating Done?
It is a method applied by dentists. First, the problem in the tooth is detected. Before starting the treatment, local anesthesia is applied to the relevant area of the patient in order to avoid sensitivity. The teeth are reduced to the appropriate size. Measurements are taken from the reduced teeth with soft materials or digital methods. The color of the teeth is selected according to the patient’s wishes with the help of a color scale.
Temporary teeth are attached in order to prevent sensitivity and not to spoil the aesthetic appearance until the zirconium coatings are prepared. The zirconium teeth, whose measurements are taken, are prepared in an average of 3-5 days. After the prepared teeth are approved by the patient, the temporary teeth are removed and the zirconium coatings are bonded. Special transparent adhesives are used to bond the teeth. Nothing should be eaten for half an hour after bonding. Regular check-ups are performed on the dates determined by the physician.
Those Who Have Zirconium Coatings
Anyone who is not satisfied with the appearance of their teeth and wants to have a more aesthetic smile can have zirconium coatings. However, since jaw development is still ongoing in individuals who are under the age of 18, zirconium treatment should be waited until development is complete. People who have zirconium coatings are mostly those who have the following teeth:
Decayed teeth,
Teeth with gaps between teeth (diastema),
Broken teeth that have been traumatized,
Teeth that have changed color due to various reasons,
Teeth that whitening does not help,
Missing teeth,
Teeth whose aesthetics have deteriorated due to gum recession,
Teeth with fillings that do not have an aesthetic appearance,
Crooked teeth,
Teeth with crowns or bridges applied.
Zirconium Tooth Models and Their Lifespan
The lifespan of zirconium teeth varies from person to person. While some people use it for 5-10 years, some people can use it for a lifetime. People who have regular dental check-ups and pay attention to their dental health can use zirconium coatings for many years. Treatments that are not performed in a clinical environment will have a short lifespan and may also be harmful to the person’s health. In order to provide the patient with a healthy and aesthetic smile, visual and formal deformities in the teeth are sometimes corrected through aesthetic composite fillings. In cases where this method is not sufficient, porcelain laminates and coatings and zirconium coatings come into play. For porcelain laminate applications, generally no abrasion is made on the teeth or minimal abrasion is made. If porcelain or zirconium applications are deemed appropriate, the patient’s opinions can be taken again during the rehearsals made during the stages and some changes can be made.
